Gone Fishin

Gone Fishin

A Chapter by Dave Brown

water ways

I thought I might go fishing

At the river down the street

Hoping I might take a fishy home

For something I could eat

Finally, a fish took a bite but

The poor thing was in total pain

His two big eyes looked at me

Pleading, please don’t do that again

It was just a fish I thought

Just a stupid looking dink

But this had upset me so much that

I threw it back into the drink

Next time at the river, absentmindedly

I watched a hook’s skyward trip

And before I knew what had happened

It had snagged me by the lip

I howled in utter pain

As a big trout reeled me in

None too selective I would say

Because I was extremely small and thin

The situation ended suddenly

Which left me quite surprised

But it explained, it had to throw me back on shore

Because I was undersized

Since then, we often share a coffee

Alongside floating duckweed

But we both look in other places now

For something else on which to feed

Just when you started thinking like a fish, you quit.
Now, you may have to move to vegetables--and be haunted by their supposed "silent screams."
Tough to catch a break.

I guess thems are the breaks
I love a good fishing story. Especially a cute and humourous one with a happy ending.
