The sailor

The sailor

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

still smiling

"

Careful not to slip into in the drink

Edgar downed the last of his drink

Then onto his sailboat he did boardit

Although he was real tight

He got the sails set quite right

Letting loose all lines, he unshoredit

Off into the great unknown

A drunken Edgar was goin

And not one soul cared a weebit

There was a report from a flight

They’d caught a quick Edgar sight

Of his ship, where nature did a deposit

But there was some good news

Their still appeared to be lotsa booze

And Edgar was reportedly being consoled byit

Rescued much later in this far place

With still a smile on his face

Cuz he had liquor left, but just a littlebit

Dave, after reading the last words of these stanzas, I must conclude you are a consummate neologist. That, or you have no shame.

Easier done than said.
Very clever, Dave.
Though it is, now, many years, I seem to remember
getting "cajoled" into oblivion.

I am directed by the ocean winds to think of Edgar Allan here...

the poor drunken writer, who died in the gutter...but left us so many priceless writings...so unfair.
He will always cruise on an ocean of infamy...if only he had been as revered during his life..he left us so much.

No, but he was a drunk...albeit an immensely talented one.
This sounds like my cousin Ben, who used to fish off Bodega Bay for a living. He was one wild character. Your rhyming & timing here are superb, as far as making this feel like a rollicking ride upon the waves (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I wonder if there is some tale about sorb sailor. I member on one river sailor at Prague he drank up untill his livers were death . Your poem is quiet amusing how tried to tell story at funny side of life. Like little boy i wanted to be sailor but when i discover reality of their life . I decided not to. To be 3 months with just man and no single women that vision make quiet gloomy. Anyway great sea shanty poetry.
