Hiding Sheep

Hiding Sheep

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

Given the responsibility

Of watching the sheep

It appears little Bo

Had lost them

While it’s true she did look

The sad story is

Sheep are too disinclined

To find their way home

And, whether little or not,

What I’ve heard

It appears Bo’s on the hook

For a whole new herd

But a quite gorgeous Bo

Who, fluttering her big brown eyes

All flirtatious like

At Jack, of Christmas pie fame, Horner

Who just happened to be

In the, wherever it was, corner

With a plum on his thumb

And who had a big surprise

For those sheep all white and dumb

Because, Jack had a sheepdog

Smart as a whip

And he didn’t have a girlfriend

Cuz he was a drip

So Bo, perhaps, I shouldn’t mention

Gave Jack, extra close attention

And regarding Bo’s reward

For Jack’s dog’s assistance

Jack offered no, not any

Sort of resistance

Jack’s since given up on plumbs

And is now

Hiding Bo’s sheep

It serves ole Bo right for trying to wrangle sheep without a trusty sheepdog. Barley, my favorite dog of a lifetime, was a Queensland Heeler. Those Aussie herding dogs are so smart, so quick to anticipate whatever the master wants. Having lived alone with Barley for 11 of my formative young-adult years, that was when I swore off men altogether. If I'd have been the female heroine written into your sexist damsel-in-distress story, I would've come away with the sheep AND the sheepdog *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie
