A Flashlight

A Flashlight

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Charlene did not like the darkness of night

Such sorry darkness gave her a fright

It was Summertime that gave her delight

Because of all its beautiful bright light

She knew that Summer would soon go away

And dark, cold winter would do a re-play

Flowers and butterflies would’ve had their day

Somehow, she had to keep Winter at bay

If she could jam Earth’s axis to stop the spin

About the Winter thing, she just might win

So, to each pole she went with her whim

And jammed large wedges, really hard in

Immediately, the world stopped spinning

Bout this season stuff, she was now winning

She couldn’t contain a face-full of grinning

Then a slight inkling that she could be sinning

The clouds could no longer could float on by

Each one got stuck in the sky

It was either constant rain, a really bad guy

Or forever Sun, which caused a person to fry

Feelin guilty bout what she had done

Realized, she had to keep spinning round Sun

Retracted the wedges, each everyone

And hung on as the planet had a freedom flung

She still finds darkness a terrible fright

But no longer huddles and cries all through night

She has since found, much to her delight

All she needed was a large flashlight
