Carpenter Glue

Carpenter Glue

A Chapter by Dave Brown

That shapely sweet wooden Sue

Was held together with carpenter’s glue

But she had to stay out of wet weather

To keep her sleek structure together

Tho’ the lady had been clamped quite tight

Her slender veneer was constructed too light

Water would make her dados all swell

And her dovetails would all fail as well

With naught but thin deciduous veneer

And mahogany inlay from ear to ear

It was not just water but also would fire

Could cause her beautacious board feet to expire

With best intentions being most ardent

She was dipped into mislabelled retardant

Unfortunately, the result of this wrongful course

Had her ending up, as a sawhorse

I find it interesting how you see the poetry - or bring it out from - everyday instances, objects, and/or events.

Someone (or something) can have so much potential, beauty and all, but somehow they still end up nothing more than a "sawhorse."

Although sawhorses are very useful, but not exactly admired.

Maybe, it's not so important to be considered "delicate, beautiful, or a work of art" after all.

Thanks for sparking this train of thought! I enjoyed it! (Sorry for rambling on, though...)

Such a sad end to something that seemed quite pretty. But one needs substance to survive and thrive. Nice poem!
