Drag Racing

Drag Racing

A Chapter by Dave Brown

While sittin on the patio

Internettin with folks from the café

A great blackness passed over

And the ground started to crazy sway

T’was then I saw a huge spaceship from Mars

Had landed over, by our two, family cars

With writing on the side, saying ‘Speed to Sell’

And I thought, ‘Oh ya, just what the hell’

A huge dust cloud had swirled all about

Which not only caused me to cough

But also threw my rhyme sequence off

A four-eyed green monster did an exit

And as I quivered, I thought, “Oh holly s**t!!”

But as I prepared to instantly split

It took off its head which said, “Please won’t you sit.”

A polite Martian was a cosmic rarity

So, I relaxed to see what it’d like to see

I’d advertised a quarter-strip drag racer in the local rag

And on race weekends, he loved to drag

He paid big bucks for my super hot, tire burner

With the twin blown, big block Poncho power

Now when I sit on the patio on weekends

I hear him up on Mars, drag racing by the hour
