Lights Out in Baghdad

Lights Out in Baghdad

A Chapter by Dave Brown

When it was lights out in Baghdad

No one keep track in Iraq

Because the night settled so deep

The skies were pitched in black

Then 101 Arabian Knight’s gathered with

Purebred horse and scimitar sharp

As Malaiki above sung of dusty doom

While strumming their hallowed harp

“Fi Sabil Allah!” screamed the gathered mass

As their warrior numbers continually grew

Dangerously close to a sleeping Baghdad

With a population they meant to subdue

T’was then Aladdin (two ‘d’s) rose from rest

And to the Cave of Wonders, went

There, releasing the Genie from the lamp

Tho’ not till the guarding Tiger was to relent

When Genie put lights back on again

The desert wind blew the Lion away

And while lights stay on in Baghdad

Away, Shawn Connery will stay

After stuffing the Genie back into the lamp

Aladdin was blessed with romantic bliss

Because with the Lion’s threat repulsed

Aladdin enjoyed a very grateful Candise
