A Chapter by Dave Brown

A backwood where memories fade

By fallen totems that lie unkempt

Where the quiet of night owl’s flight

Passes prowling cougar’s quest

The hulking Sasquatch warily wends

Apart from grey wolf and wild wolverine

Through the deep dark of tall Cedar

Where delicate deer quietly step

Unhindered, the forest returns

Where once villages lay now ignored

Covering the vestiges of earlier days

Which shafts of sunlight set ablaze

They say he is nothing but a fable

But the steadily, creeping forest knows

That as her branches spread anew

He’s a quiet shadow travelling through
