A Chapter by Dave Brown

Longside night’s sea

I felt a soft light flash

Just at the side of my eye

And then a slight splash

In a night wave, a reflection

That the tide carried ashore

Which my curious way

Prompted me to explore

In the quiet bay

Through a wave’s opening door

A mermaid slipped through

Onto the sand of the shore

Sitting quiet, strummed her harp

With light waves gentle caress

And the starlight sprinkled over

Formed the sea’s Queen night dress

Her harp played soft sea tunes

Weaving round evening’s enclaves

Her voice enriched the melody

Of night’s incoming waves

As she turned toward me

Brightness shone from her face

And she smiled a soft invitation

That was a lover’s embrace

Side by side, we left that shore

To spend our lives neath the sea

Midst coral atolls, with dolphins

My sea Queen and me
