Years Ago

Years Ago

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Many years ago, when I was a near child

I met a Mary-Lou who drove me near wild

Her eyes like sapphires, lips red and bold

As tho’ she’d been poured from a perfect mold

She slipped away or was it I that had gone

Memories of past years I can no longer count on

But I remember the feeling, her soft and her smell

And I remember falling deep into black hell

On some distant street corner perhaps, we’ll meet again

But the feelings I had then, they didn’t remain

From highest emotion to deepest depth of despair

The golden glow of her long, soft, brown hair

Those magic moments that have come, then gone

Through it all, a broken heart carries on

Merely responding to emotions adrift

Enjoying this life, which is the greatest gift

Thank you for showing me how its done . . . that is, not being able to forget A SINGLE ONE! I'm trying to channel the sweet essence of your sentimentality, but I'm getting nowhere. My romantic spill this morning veered off into lustful la-la land, as usual. Still, I shall study your poem & try to figure out how to conjure up a lasting emotional feeling (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
