Lose a Liddle

Lose a Liddle

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

Each year I lose a liddle

Off the top but not the middle

As I get closer to the ground

I also get further round

And increase my girth

Bit by bit, pound by pound

In the years now gone by

I used to train my brain

But now unfortunately

Liddle does remain

Bending over has become a problem

When I walk, I’m often hobbling

The stuff that gets me up the stairs

Is in need of serious repairs

Both feet have scant regard

To even walk around the yard

And day is lookin more like night

Courtesy of my fading sight

So if there is a magic pill

I will gladly pay the bill

There's a lot of acceptance needed around ageing and the failing senses and abilities that come with it. And it starts much earlier than you think when you are young! Humour helps, especially poetry that exactly and describes the experience, but is still gently funny. I like your use of the word liddle, particularly as part of the first two lines:

Each year I lose a liddle
Off the top but not the middle

Thank you for articulating my experiences and making me smile.

I identify with forgetting the movies too 😀
Somehow I picked two poems of yours in a row about this topic. One might think it's become HEAVY on your mind!!! *smile* I'm on the heavy spectrum myself & trying to jump start this ole carcass again, hobbling up the road & back with my cane. As we used to say in the old days: "It's a b***h and then you die!" (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
