A Hummingbird

A Hummingbird

A Chapter by Dave Brown

A hummingbird came to our window

Hoovering as it took a long look

Saw me watching TV

While my wife was reading a book

Then a quick flash to the feeder

Slurpin the good stuff straight down

Although it enjoyed the sweet taste

It was no longer hangin around

Back to its place in the bushes

Where all little Hummingbirds go

Where it has built its small nest

That her wee ones, find most apropos

She hoovers often for a long look

Very often we see her pause there

It is a precious nature moment together

That we truly are all blessed to share

You've captured the quintessential hummingbird sighting! Of all birds I adore around here (quail, wild turkeys, red-tailed hawks -- but NOT blue jays!) . . . hummingbird is considered my totem becuz I've been blessed so often by the teensy rascals. When I lived in town for 11 years & now I've lived in the wilderness for 10, I've had hummingbirds stop by every day, often numerous times. I've never seen a nest or where they might go, but they appear & disappear magically, just as you suggest. I've often wondered where they go after they dive-bomb my water stream while I'm hand watering (which I'm still doing in December, becuz we've only had 6 drops of rain so far this season!) This is a sweet delicious poem honoring my favorite fluttering totem (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
