The Well

The Well

A Chapter by Dave Brown

One more reach

Into the well

Now less to find inside

Is somewhere a magic spell

For a valley which has died

Or for a mountains pride

Where growth of endless years

That has been so sorely tried

Now sheds a thousand tears

Can we re-wed that gracious bride

Pon whom we rained our genocide

Can once more we gently sway

That which warmed, with whom we lay

We cajoled beneath her open arms

While hacking them apart

Her endless vistas we did crave

Her breath gave us our start

But we treat her now

As we would, a shackled slave

Can we still hand in hand

With that gentle belle

Or have we sucked

All the deep

From her magic well
