The Opotamus

The Opotamus

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Hippy the Opotamus who bulged at the seams

Who was slim only in his wildest dreams

Wanted to play ball for the Yankees it seems

But couldn’t make even the minor league teams

He went on a crash diet to lose 1000 pounds

Seems pretty difficult, I know how it sounds

Drinking black coffee and just eating the grounds

In one month, he’d only lost fifty pounds

Then selling both ears and one side of beef

Including his rib cage, causing just minor grief

Two toes and then down there, put a fig leaf

His huge weight still had him, in disbelief

Hippy’s decided to try out for rugby instead

Back to eating now whatever he’s fed

His dreams of playing for the Yankees have fled

Along with most of his body

As you always do, topping the stratosphere of imagination. This reminds me of my brother, who has always been delusional about his weight. He really thinks he has an athletic body, but he must weigh over 300 lbs. He tells these stories at holiday get-togethers about how his 60-something carcass beat all the young people on whatever bike ride he claims to have just done. The stories go on & on & everyone humors him. Your opening line is brilliant & the rest just hums along! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
