Saving Damsels

Saving Damsels

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Prince Valiant was in a mood

To save some endangered damsel

And had heard forlorn female cries

Louder than even the tower’s bell

The castle walls were so imposing

Too embarrassing to climb in his kilts

With a huge problem to solve

He decided on some really long stilts

Made from the tallest trees in the land

Tho’, with their height, difficult to mount

He sought help and satisfactory solvation

From the wide country’s great stilt fount

Future technology was his forte

And he set about quickly designing

Stilts both easy to climb onto

And suitable for highest castle climbing

The design seemed a great success

With elevator foot lifts from solar power

The quality construction being strong enough

To lift any Knight to any Castle tower

Lowering the foot-mounts, Valiant stepped aboard

Partially ascended, till clouds blocked the sun

With the underside of his kilts in plain view

The foot-mounts would no longer run

He has since become a tourist draw

With his barren beneath all exposed

For when sun shines in Scotland again

Nary one single soul knows

Pardon me for being easily distracted this morning (tomorrow is "Happy New Presidency Day"!!!!!) . . . but thru most of your poem I was imagining Lorry or Alan Graham bopping around Horseshoe Bay on stilts & wagging their kilted jewels among the hemlocks (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

At least he's boosting the tourism revenue now. And the sun is getting to shine where it never did before. I'm all for happy endings.

at least chivalry isn't dead even if it gives us more than an eyeful. i don't know how robin hood did it but at least he & his men were merry. reminds me of icarus who fashioned wings but flew too close to the sun. very clever and amusing. perhaps he should have focused his efforts on underwear ... :)

I've been acting the role of "Valiant" lately, and am just beginning to see the ridiculousness of it all. I'm not ashamed to say this really speaks to me...:)
