A Chapter by Dave Brown

The effen weight was quite effen heavy

He effen thought he was effen strong enough

Perhaps if he just effen well dragged by an effen corner

He’d effen well just have to get effen tough

Through the effen graveyard, effen deep at effen night

Past little effen things effen deep in effen grass

Effen scurrying, effen hurrying, effen quietly watching

His effen midnight effen tres-effen-pass

Then an effen star effen appeared in the effen night sky

No, not an effen star, it was an effen bloodshot eye

Then it effen was two effen eyes that effen looked effen angry

And an effen voice effen telling him to effen let it effen lie

That effen voice and those effen bloodshot effen eyes

Effen reminded him he wasn’t effen brave nor effen strong

And with all the effen negative from above

He effen decided to just effen run along

Author's Note

Dave Brown
the effen 4 letter word has become the main tough guy terminology with every film using it to a ridiculous extreme
This is my effen little sarcastic commentary

Yes, I tried reading it both ways and you're right. Way too much. Can't hardly see the regular words through the effen weeds of eff. I know movies and music often use a startling word or phrase to incite some kind of dramatic response, but there's such a thing as overkill. I like your nice little effen sarcastic commentary. Nice job!

I was watching a movie the other night where it was almost in every sentence
Truly overkill
Yep, an odd unexpected eff can have impact, shock value but when used as an adjective in every sentence, it sort of falls flat. Your poem demonstrates the overuse well Dave, particularly current in films.

Actually, wasn't there once a famous lawyer named Eff Lee Bailey?
yeah like I was saying, 'they' can't make a movie these days without totally overloading the dialect with the 'f' word
I effin pees me off

This is effen fitting satire. In my younger days I used the eff word about this effen much. Then I had a boss who made me put a quarter in his little tip jar for every time I used the eff word around him. He actually cured me for life. But when times get effen stressful, my eff usage orbits & I have to effen tame it down again. I once wrote an effen story & my characters said "f****n'-A!" to everything, just as one of my old stoner pals used to do. But I couldn't stand reading it after awhile, so I trimmed a few. Not to say this effen extravaganza could use an encounter with an effen hedge trimmer or any-effen-thing like that! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I agree, it's over used but I will say I like when it's used creatively or too emphasize something.
But yeah, in general, not a big fan. Clever stuff Mr. Brown. :)

Oh... Oh man. Literally catching my breath right now.
I just laughed so hard I think I may have popped a hernia stitch!
This is brilliance. And biting satire at it's absolute peak.
I don't know, man. You say "writers block" but all I hear is genius.
