Sweet Wine

Sweet Wine

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

It was one of Autumn’s warm days

As though Summer was still burning

We lay back in some long, wild grass

And watched as the season was turning

There seemed now, a softer blue

Light clouds stretched a long gentle line

The magic wings of Nature’s miracle

Waved from their aerial shrine

A bug on a mission hurried by

Four Rabbit ears pointed straight up

Huge weed Alders in still damp soil

Shielded one bright, willing buttercup

A great quiet was taking place

Beneath fading Summer’s bright shine

Those long warm days and nights that were

Now in a steady decline

Our ageing eyes turned toward each other

Their wonderful magic also in slow decline

We smiled about the moments we still share

That linger on like the sweet taste of wine

Autumn is indeed a time when we are reminded of life's ongoing changes. Nothing lasts forever. There is "a slow decline" that accelerates with the years. We do need to remind ourselves of the "sweet wine" of pleasant memories. One of your best thus far, Dave.

I like how you told us about all the creatures (Well in my mind I did add a few)
Like the geese flying south on a three-day non-stop flight
The hedgehog rolling up in leaves
Our ageing eyes turned toward each other
Their wonderful magic also in slow decline
We smiled about the moments we shared
The memories held in our photographs
Of places - People - events

I wish it could be autumn all year long:) and frankly lately I am glad we can still have an autumn:/ The beautiful decay of seasons change is among the most effulgent displays one can revel in my good friend Mr. Brown just when i think I've got you pegged you go ahead and write something like this!

A wonderful poem shared Dave.

I loved the above lines. We need the easy days, a blue sky and the taste of some sweet wine. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

This is a delicious stroll into romantic autumn! I love how your details are sparkling, fresh & original. I love how you do a tie-in the "autumn of life" at the end. I can tell this is written by a northerner, however, it shows in the first line. Down here in the desert called Cali we get significant heat clear up until Halloween. But then again, 90*F/32*C feels cool after a summer in the 100's/40's! This poem really shows your sensitive & serious side (rare!) Fondly, Margie

This is wonderfully romantic. Age robs of us many things but not love that has endured the years. That bond is deeply rooted.

There's some Nostalgia attached to this write, I presume.
Wine tastes sweeter with time and yes we age but our memories don't.
Beautiful flow to the write and reads like a breeze.
