Big Bucks

Big Bucks

A Chapter by Dave Brown

I found four-bits on the ground

And I picked it up

Then went to McDonalds

To get a nice warm cup

There I got-a-cup-a

And a blueberry muffin

Then meandered to the beach

Where I started stuffin

Just as I finished all

And was dropping off my waste

I saw a hundred bucks on a bench

And toward it, quickly raced

I could see a full meal ahead

And perhaps a show after that

And some decent sandals

And a cool lookin hat

Coming out of the theater

Ahead on the ground-

Was a monstrous diamond

What indeed had I found

When the police returned it to me

After waiting for a year

I found I had a new bunch-a-buds

And we drank a-lot-a beer

Stumbling out of the pub together

One bud gave me a hot tip

I invested every cent I had

And watched it take a crazy trip

I soon had twenty million smackers

And was absolutely rollin in dough

But when next month, came the crash

I watched all my money go

Dead broke, walking, head hanging

I saw four-bits on the ground ahead

But what took place after that

Has no need to be resaid

Your poem takes a fantastical leapfrog journey ending up where this guy started out & the completeness of that is a little satisfying, since I was thinking this poem was becoming too delusional to follow, carrying on beyond the limits of my own feeble ability to imagine anything turning out "riches" as we slog thru this unbelievable mess that our country is mired in, with people going broke by the millions. Despite my own sadly jaded viewpoint, your poem is well-constructed with strong rhyme, rhythm, & storytelling (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
