Takaya

Takaya

A Poem by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

A falling golden token

Of an autumn’s waning ways

As it leaves its summer place

And gently endless lays

This colored cast of nature

Tho fading in its right

Cannot carpet scars of mankind

In his self-absorbed short-sight

Just one more life snuffed out

By an entitled little man with gun

The trees, the steams, all wilderness cried

As Takaya’s days were done

What matters, just one more wolf

Autumn’s leaves will always fall

The stream of wild thing’s wasted tears

Will still tumble ever by

Here, here! excellent write my friend. We are on the same page here Dave. We just voted in Colorado to reintroduce the wolves to the national park. I am anxious to see how the majority voted. (I guess you know how I did!) ~Sharon

finger's crossed
all of intricate creation is inextricably linked including man. it's always just one more until there are none and folks scratch their heads and say, "gee, what happened?. where'd they all go?"

"Autumn’s leaves will always fall" - but will they really? not enough reverence for life. the days of reckoning are at hand and it won't be pretty. cry indeed ... :)

I am afraid you are quite right
The superiority complex of human race have already made this earth a whole lot of damage... And it's still going. One day we will repent for that.... As already it has started.

It was my pleasure...
I could kill such people with my bare hands such fury rises in me! Who gave man the right to decide to snatch away a fellow creatures life??? This planet is as much theirs as ours. I weep for Takaya.

Sure will take a look. You have a very nice day too Dave :)
I love this! Wow! I'm so sad about the short-sightedness of people who shoot wild animals just becuz they're there. I was just watching something that stated some 10's of millions of buffalo were slaughtered in just 10 years! This is a heartfelt tribute to the wolf, a beautiful animal that deserves a chunk of free wild life without being hunted by small-minded people (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yes, too many of us are stupid f*****g a******s
There is both beauty and tragedy in this one, Dave. Liked very much the word picture of autumn in the beginning. But this gives way to a scene of cruelty that shows the other side of this strange life we live. We need to derive understanding from all angles of this journey.

First of all, the somber tone is unusual from you, Dave. But, I guess the subject matter explains it all. It is tragic how "little men" first want to conquer Nature, subdue it, drive it to the edge of destruction (or beyond) and then pay lip service to saving it. Bloodlust is such a deeply ingrained aspect of humans it's no wonder this planet is a boneyard. Sad.

very true
Takaya was a 'lone wolf'
He originally swam from a gulf island to a backyard in Victoria BC where he was captured
He became famous when he was taken back to a small gulf island where he lived alone (famously) for years
Then a hunter shot and killed him, for fun!

I looked up the title and I still don't know much about it as a subject. I suppose it's personal? Anyway, I thought your poem flowed nice, and the flow led me to the end. Tyfs
