Marrying a Camel

Marrying a Camel

A Chapter by Dave Brown

While crossing the Sudan

In the cool of the night

I was visited by two aliens

In their small customized meteorite

They, from a far distant Galaxy

Had built this thing in their back yard

And with their parent’s permission

Flew off, taking their bankcard

But when trying to use the card on Earth

The punched in numbers were rejected

And since the contraption’s engine had stalled

They were now grounded and dejected

Both brightened up upon seeing my Camel

Which was actually my dearest house pet

They asked if they could swap for her

But that’s something I’d forever regret

We decided instead to hook up a tow rope

Hoping to get a running camel jumpstart

Which we all figured would work fine

It being bout the same size as a go-cart

This all worked out real fine

With their little space ship shooting away

But they forgot to untie my darling Camel

And I haven’t seen her to this day

Although recently, I did receive an e-mail

Quite thoughtfully sent along my way

Telling me my Camel and an alien had wed

With her expecting on the 23 of May

This is one of your more logical jaunts on a camel with no identification or credit card. I'm catching hints of my favorite autobiographical tune: "Been thru the desert on a horse with no name" by the 70's band America. Sometimes you take a trek that's hard to follow from where a poem starts & where it goes . . . but in this case, I easily caught the logistics of your poetic insanity. Using a camel to jumpstart an alien spaceshuttle . . . why didn't I think of that? Here's hoping I can reach a comparable level of outlandish storytelling in verse as I fiendishly follow your whimsical wanderings all thru 2021 (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Love that tune every bit as much as I miss my dear Camel
I know you know how difficult it is .. read more
I have found as a lagomorph that camels can be a bit feisty and obstinate so I have never entertained the thought but then again in the spirit of interstellar relations, I will approve of the marriage. does this make you and grandfather come may?
