Turning White

Turning White

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Blue skies dawning bright from a deep sleep night

Soon expressed concern of approaching, mean appetite

Deep clouds obsessed with the containment of light

Re-addressed Sun’s ways with a sass of cool spite

As a ton-a-the bright stuff turns everythin white

With no contrite bout more stuff now becoming ripe

Whatever might-a-once grown, now outa sight

January’s elbowed December for wood warmin heat

But ice cubes dancing down long limbs is no treat

Bumbled birds rush to wing, or a jetliner seat

Beach bums resort now to a coffee shop meet

Driver’s slip slidin, ditch divin down every slick street

The old girl browbeating to get some heat by her feet

And thermal thoughts turn to winterin in warm Papeete

While cool skies bring cold winter’s chilled ways

For some, wild winter ways have become a real craze

But while they go off grid for bout eighty-eight days

It is TV adventures, bloating butts of we two old grey’s

As we employ a mango, muck-luck effervesce haze

And though this is our main time to mostly just laze

I kina wish winter would just go aways

It's a cold, cold winter. I think it is also going to be a very long one for us. Hoping that things aren't as bad over there as they are here. After reading your poem, I will put a couple of extra layers on. Happy New Year Dave. All the best.
