Wife's Tale

Wife's Tale

A Chapter by Dave Brown

The dishwasher was playing, its melody

Then another noise, like a rough sea

Like sounds of waves crashing a-beach

But in the Kitchen, no beach was in reach

The plumber was a great handsome lug

Who promised to correct this unpleasant bug

His attention quickly shifted to under the sink

Hopefully before, the house started to sink

Pipes flying, water drying, me sighing with relief

With his outrageous bill I had a slight beef

Flat rate plus supplies to make right

Too quickly, the bill was right out of sight

But in spite of this sink problem bill

Of living alone, we’d each had our fill

Each wanted a mate which led to a date

Was this the dishwashers idea or simply fate

The restaurant was lovely, the food simply grand

On the walk after, he held tight my hand

Beneath a sky with magical stars shinning through

Into each others eyes, we both said I do.

We honeymooned on the Isle of Capri

In a stone Castle above azure sea

The country round live with wines from vines

A soft evening’s breeze passed through open blinds

We stayed to till soil and grow white wine

Three children we had in short order time

The farm grew as did it we nourish

Our family grew as did we flourish

Twenty years we spent tilling the soil

Till finally we were bent from the toil

Our children had left to roam open "eyed

And we put a life time of farming aside

They returned to help with our new café

Above were rooms where tourists could stay

An ageing stone building was housing our dream

Through a small garden, a babbling stream

By the wrought iron gate, inside the stone wall

Our little white puppy gives welcome to all

He is part of our restaurants charm

And at night he becomes an alarm

The Isle of Capri welcomed us into its fold

On this enchanted Isle we were to grow old

It seemed time had passed in a blink

Since a big handsome lug had unplugged my sink

What a lovely story....people meet in the strangest places; and then...look what happens, a romance, a marriage, many children, the farm, the grapes, the wine, the restaurant, and what could be a prettier place than Capri, where my Fiancee and I officially got engaged....still wearing my rings from a jewelry place where my folks knew the owner!!! small world....
well done, Best, B

lucky you
sounds like it was super romantic
From the dishwasher to the Isle of Capri. From the title, I thought it was going to be a Chaucer knockoff, but instead it's Cinderella with a plumber prince.

Aww how cute
Love dogs
Dearest Dave... Plumbers are seductive as they explore the
source of problems ... quite a family history written therein...
Love the ending ... in a Vintage setting where even a furry friend is in the “Heart of Living”. Very Charming. tenderly, Pat

Thanks very much
I guess it shows clogged sinks might not always be all that bad
Who woulda thought a big ole plumber's crack could lead to all this bliss? I commend you on your storytelling in verse, deliciously pumped in this ditty. I think you've painted everyone's dream life . . . going from some grungy drudge like plumbing to tilling on an idyllic isle! Your details & rhyme are humming to make this feel like the escape everyone dreams of (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
