Zombies

Zombies

A Poem by Dave Brown

The zombies came to Igor’s Tomb

Screaming banshees and wild witches

They rode on wild fire-eyed stallions

From rank swamps and fog filled ditches

Fiendishly howling from each warped mind

With screeches and screams wild and chilling

Their black capes streamed far behind

Ghoulish apparitions of horror’s mad billing

Grizzled and gruesome a most frightful sight

This last black end of dark October’s night

They slunk deep past each cauldron and tomb

Creating an atmosphere of spine-chilling doom

Then neath the haunting vampire moon

Where crows and fanged werewolfs all lay

Their Mums and Dads gave them a shout

Cuz it was too late to stay out and play

Back in the house with costumes off

All washed up and heading for beds

It was time for all ferocious beasts

To lay down their wee sleepy heads

In the middle of all this loud gory Halloween writing, suddenly I'm plunked into a sentimental world of pure childlike sweetness. This is one of your best poems & also one of your best twists in a poem. The gooey syrupy ending really took me by surprise! (((HUGS)))

You are so sentimental, underneath all that crazy writing of yours!

Ah, the little people all dressed up. Kids just love Halloween. Thoroughly enjoyed Dave and it brought so many memories back of my grandkids dressing up for trick or treating. We always had a wonderful evening. Thank you for the memories.

All OK now with fuel. Just a hiccup. Media hype causing problems.
Grinned and nodded all the way through.. never imagining the end would be... how it was. You use wonderful phrasing.. apt for the time, the event and drama.. and roll the eyes in fear of what the heck is coming next! Thanks lots for sharing.. sleep will smile - in time.

Wonderful poem Dave for this spooky fun time of year. True fact my mother once told me I was a very difficult birth which almost cost her life. She claims to have nearly bled to death. Half of me was sticking out on Halloween night and the rest popped out on the Hispanic day of the dead after midnight. We would often celebrate my birthday on Halloween so that I didn't get too many presents but instead lots of candy. It's why I have such a literal kinship with this time of year. Thank you for this fun spooky read my friend.
