Every so often I get thoroughly depressed

With not having that serious type gene

When its meaningful poetry I try to address

My pedantic efforts are basically pre-teen

In a morose mood I climbed into my ride

Lookin to ignore my unwanted depression

As eight cylinders burbled their response

My sorry kisser adopted a happier expression

Cruising the beach, longside sand and surf

Something caught the corner of my eye

It looked like the periscope of a passing sub

With a posted ‘for sale’ sign, gone slightly awry

A guy out front, with his head just above water

Yelled over, Did I have some waterproof tape?

Since I always kept my machine shinning bright

I appreciated he also wanted his baby in shape

I overhand hucked out a brand-new roll

Which slipped through slippy fingers, slippidy-slip

Grabbing my lasso neath the louvered lid

Over that periscope, I did a quick cowboy flip

Dragged along the beach, but maintaining my grip

I brought that big momma to a dead stop

Which got it leaning toward the beach so badly

It eventually did a completely, complete flip-flop

Havin the periscope underwater, buried too deep

With the sign right out of sight, got me atona flack

Which got me so absolutely, totally peed off

Still in western boots, I swam out and took my tape back

It was then I realized my mood had changed

Tho still a lousy poet, I’d got rid of the depression

This got me wheelin my cool rod onto the sand

Where taking off my shirt, I undepressidly lay in the sun

One day I’d try writing serious again

But today the warm Sun was so like too cool

And as far as becoming another Lightsong or Estrada

Or possibly even a Gillis, who was I thinking I’d fool

Dave, if this is your depression, I can't imagine what your manic state must be like. Don't worry, though; we need Dr. Suess as much as we need Edgar Allan Poe.

As the kids say "You do you, Boo." I enjoy the mirthful humorous poetry you submit. Through the humor you give your reader a lesson or parable to learn. I myself would never discount or devalue the insightful art of your poetry. One of the greatest joys from writing one can achieve is making people laugh with humor. Art is subjective. Some may find it heresy to say but there are quite a few that view Dr. Seuss writing as sublime and much more of value than Shakespeare. I myself hold them equal in value because what I find of worth is the heart and love that is revealed and shared from within the art. Your writing like quite a few here are sunshine in a dreary day. They are a much needed smile in an otherwise difficult time. You have proven you are capable of producing both serious pieces of poetry as well as humorous gems. Which ever you choose to write on any given day as a fan I will keep on reading. Because your writing reflects who you are and the complexity of emotions you use to weave into your magic of poetry.
