Ramblings Of a Madman

Ramblings Of a Madman

A Poem by David Ravencroft

Layeth a kiss upon my brow, forgive the fact that I'm not there now, I'm but a shadow of a man I once was, I do now what every madman does, My soul left in great haste, Oh but a waste, Let the dead lie, Now I give my final goodbye.

Powerful lines… it's a plea for understanding and a dark goodbye.

NOTES: I recommend breaking the lines; the words have more impact and flow laid out in lines as below; I made a couple of suggestions that help the meter hold together.
Layeth a kiss upon my brow,
forgive that I'm not there now,
I'm but a shadow of a man I once was,
I do now what every madman does,
My soul left in great haste,
Oh but [what] a waste,
Let the dead lie,
Now. I give my final goodbye.

great piece here, of a person who has become something that isn't him and has cost him his life and now will rest with the last breath of goodbye to those who cared for him and knew him as a memory now of a madman.
