2013

A Poem by David Lewis Paget

This year that creeps up on the clock

Has made no friend in me,

It holds the seeds of all that may

Go wrong, adversity.

It drips, just like a faulty tap

Its rhythm undisturbed,

Creeps up along our boundaries,

May not be stopped, or curbed.

It answers only to itself

No fee may slow its chant,

Each life bleeds slowly with each tick,

Winds down our covenant.

I thank the year that we have seen

Pass on, and all its gains,

For we survived, and live to tell

Its laughter, and its pains.

But this intruder, in its cloak

Of anonymity,

Has yet to put its stamp on us

This gross humanity.

The millions who will pass away

Before this year is done,

Would wish to halt it in its sway,

Not write it on their tomb.

So let us all assault this year

With hope and pride possessed,

And blunt its sting, with deeds and cheer

Let God decide the rest!

Very good...we must make the best of the new year given us...and it can be better than the one before...

I suppose your poetry rhymes because you craft your words carefully instead of just throwing them out willy-nilly. Of course I'm not a good enough writer even to question you.

Tate told me you were his favorite writer, and I see why. This is fantastic, and I am amazed by this. You, Tate, Neva Changeful Storm, and Joshua Deathdealer are truely the best writers on this site.

I'd rather not have someone chiseling 2013 on my headstone, hell I'd rather not have need for a headstone. I think this year will be just another in my (regretfully) finite life.

OHHHHHHHHHH my, I shall not in detail divulge how this poem affected me, I shall share that this new year greeting poem, so appropriate and true to form is penned with such style and grace and cleanses ones soul. Thank you David for an outstanding New Year Greeting. Protrayed only the way a master craftsman can carve with his pen!!

An interesting look at the New Year as only one who has seen many come and go could take. I hope the world takes heed to your warnings, and assault it with good deeds and cheer. Wonderful writing and rhyming as usual David!
