Boots

Boots

A Poem by Fabiana

The creases on my shins

The reminder of the laces

Of those boots that you’ve always hated.

The crossing of the laces

Leave their mark my pearly skin,

Like the marks you left on my trachea

When I tried to speak of the moon to you

Breath into me

Pull my body into the endless spiral

I want to feel the end of time

Separated in just a kiss

                                a touch

                                  a word

 Just one more time

We once shook the sky

With our lungs painting stars on the ceiling

But then a knife went in

It destroyed our sky

Animals moved into the empty spaces

Put their claws on the spongy tissue

And in the end all I have is

Black boots and the lungs of a creature

I like how the boots spark the memory of that lover in this piece. I think this is a unique simile that has lots of character: "Like the marks you left on my trachea/When I tried to speak of the moon to you." Also, I think that says a lot about their relationship, and how they communicated. Stanza's 3-5 had a lot of passion in them. There is a volcanic desire at the center of those lines.

I'm intrigued by the last stanza of this one. My favorite part of that one is "And in the end all I have is/Black boots and the lungs of a creature." That brings back your theme about the boots, but it also shows that the encounter has left the speaker feeling less then human, maybe alienated from what she loved.

I do have a small question about the first two lines in that last stanza, and I'll send you a message about that a little later.

At any rate, I'm glad I walked the path of these boots tonight.
