What Did You Say

What Did You Say

A Poem by Debra Stevens Edwards (debby)
"

A poetic drabble.

"

What did you say?
End stage liver disease.
No wait WHAT DID YOU SAY?
Repeat that if you please.

No wait, did I hear you right.
Did you say I'm Dying?
Just "shut-up", get out of my sight...
No way, you must be lying...

You know you're dying from the day you're born,
but still it hits you like a ton of bricks,
You feel so lost, and so forlorn.
I spent my youth getting my kicks...

Now I praise God each day that I'm still here,
I believe in his power, and trust his will,
I'm waiting without fear...

I like the last two stanzas a lot-more than the first two. The first seem a little to humorous for the subject-but that is just my opinion. I would love to see a poem developing the ideas in the last two stanzas.

You have captured the emotions I am sure anyone getting this type of news feels, Debby. Shock and denial would be the first reactions. Tune in to God T.V. on the internet when you have a moment. It might encourage you. I will send you the link.

Love, Carole

Well, Debby - this is a drabble with a TON of emotion. I could feel it - every word.
