Happiness Fades

Happiness Fades

A Poem by Dianne S Penfold

Sideways glances fall my way,
I walk past longing eyes.
Whispers cover me night and day,
These voices follow, I despise.

People talking from sunrise to twilight,
My ears are tired from all the noise.
Wishing that I can simply take flight
With no choice I stand bold and poise.

I am a scrap of meat in a crow's nest.
I am a drop of rain in a dry, dry place.
Surrounded, consumed, by all manner of pest,
I am losing the vision, losing my face.

Centrally kneeling within the center,
Naked, alone, exposed, afraid.
Outside the gates, too weak to enter.
I stay where I am as happiness fades.
