No Life Time

No Life Time

A Poem by D. Nelson

Some people only get one chance...

but I've had more than I can count...

So why am scared when I have to answer for my crimes,

Judges, cops and everybody else singing lullabies,

goodnight my child, it's time for sleep,

you're in too deep going down a road that ends on the street,

on the block, naked bum without a life,

the ball has dropped, in a silence so thick I could hear a pin drop,

man, f**k a cop that thinks we're criminals for our addictions,

and I'll take my conviction with the conviction of a dope fiend

looking for a chance to redeem himself In the eyes of his family,

sounds just like me, like you, like him, shaded face hidden by my brim,

hood up I hide from society, if nobody likes a m**********r like me,

no wonder I don't falter at your screams.

See the screams of the weak are like the screams of the strong,

it's the same old song when you're dying feels wrong

and thats the only way to die, nobody ever died right.

It's a fight, death is the price of my life,

and I don't like it but I take it and I shape it,

it's my life and I can break it.

You understand me?

Thinking you can stand me?

You can never brand me.

No, never, no statistic will define me,

I will always stand up, Stand out.

I'll let you're blood flow out,

and you can lock me up but I will get out,

roll out, roll up and that's enough, Life's rough,

get tough, grow up. Hell is easy all you have to do is show up.

Life is muddy, life is murky and you will get stuck,

get struck, take your shots like a man, take a stand,

because a man without a purpose is a man without a stance,

that's a dance that I don't want to take part in

so please pardon my insanity, I can't sleep,

I'm not haunted by my dreams cause the dreams aren't there

when you're life has become a nightmare.

I don't care if the people that I loved aren't there,

don't stare, I am not an animal even if I act like one.

Please don't feed the cannibal, get your skull cracked dumb,

and get done just before I get hungry for another one.

I'm a monster just in case you haven't gathered that already.

And I'm ready but my hand isn't steady,

cause somebody has always fed me,

somebody always clothes me and bathed me.

But the plans were laid, my existence was staged.

I've lived my whole life inside a cage,

so you see even the monster in your closet cries when he's afraid.

Cries alone on his own in the cold without clothes or a home,

but remember that he did it to himself cause he never felt love for anyone else.
