About Love and Pain by Luis Gabriel

About Love and Pain by Luis Gabriel

A Poem by Luis Gabriel
"

A sestina, written for a class but definitely from the soul.

"

Stand for what you believe and be beat down

Stand for what you say, be tried and found

What will you do when it all falls to the ground

What will you do when no light and no sound

Is enough to pull you to your feet

When you are in pain’s grip and in love’s heat

Crazily enough we don’t understand love’s heat

Believing it can be found, we search for it deep down

It courses through us steadily, from our head to our feet

Eluding us like our shadows, not to be found

It hides behind the right time, quiet making no sound

Waiting to trip us up and watch us fall to the ground

Only when our pride is smashed against the ground,

Then we can see the bright golden fire of love’s heat

Our silent paranoia’s will be murdered without a sound

Constant pre-conceived judgements will be smashed down,

That is when our endurance will be tried and found

Weak or perhaps strong, pounding like running feet

Heart’s pounding and beating in time with the runner’s feet

We will all have to run endurance’s race, on love’s ground

For that is love’s test, putting man through fire to be found

To be either gold or lead, meeting gently the fire of love’s heat

Found deep deep in the waters of souls, deep down

Deep in these waters where, fire can exist, but not the clamor of sound

Silence claps your wrist saying, “shhh, not the clamor of sound”

Here silence asks the question “can a runner run with chained up feet”

Then let go of them deep deep in the water of souls, deep down

For here not dirt but life is the substance of the testing grounds

Here where our own personal worlds are formed, alive with that heat

Here where love is proven and necessity forces strength to be found

But then the question: What if some shadows don’t want to be found?

What if there is no place, golden with silence and barren with sound?

What if it is an illusion alluding to our foolishness, this love’s heat?

What if there is no race to be run by this runner’s feet?

What if the pain suffered in this life is no testing ground?

What if we stand for what we believe will we be beat down?

So what if we are beat down, who knows what wants to be found

Have you grown in life’s testing grounds, if you have don’t protest, no sound

Get up and rise to your feet, for you already know the truth of love’s heat
