Here Lies...

Here Lies...

A Poem by Divyendu Nair

Here lies…..

Hear me out! this one wish of mine
to die under a lonely tree,
the only tree in a meadow unknown.
I’ll lie on my back on the green mossy sheet
and sink into the depths of earthly bliss.
My soul would love to escape
through my eyes -  so I won’t close 'em as I die.
The falling flowers and leaves
of the dear tree would cover me.
Keep no headstone , no record - none
at least leave me alone in eternity!
Let no man come to my grave
in search of a lost name…
“Here lies…”  nothing  but a handful of clay!

One who wishes to be forgotten under a lonely tree, I’m only compelled to ask, why?. Why would a beautifully created creature seek such fate
