My Dream Girl

My Dream Girl

A Poem by Ralph Proenza (Docralph)
"

A girl from a dream suddenly shows up in realiy.

"

My Dream Girl

When I saw her come out from the big student lounge,

I got chills all over, and my heart skipped a beat.

Why would I do so, when her I didn’t know.

But I looked at her face and realized it then.

She was the ONE in my dreams I had seen

Night after night, the face was the SAME!

Her hair was light auburn that glowed in the sun,

Long, and was lustrous, and reached to her shoulders.

She turned to the right, and I saw both her eyes,

Deep pools of green I could easily drown in.

Her face was angelic, just as I knew,

With skin oh so flawless as if made of marble.

Her stately physique would surely stop traffic

As she had done every night on the streets of my dreams.

Her beauty was outside all human description,

A Greek Goddess, she, beyond comprehension.

How could I I know her, from only a dream?

Was it now possible I had found my Soul Mate?

Then without any fanfare, she turned and was gone,

Lost in the crowd, a sea of strange faces.

Desperate to find her, my beautiful goddess,

I wandered around in the throng of the people.

I wanted to tell her; I had seen her last night.

I wanted to ask if she’d also seen me?

Now I walk by myself -- in the streets,

Looking at faces, looking for her.

My elusive Dream Girl, that ethereal goddess who

My mind had just conjured in the dark of the night.

This is beautiful, a shame that you could not make the contact you wanted in reality, not just in your dream. I appreciate that she is so much like the girls I have dreamed of. Dreams that like this girl quickly fade in the morning light. What we see in the day perhaps is just a figment of our imagination or wishful thinking.

reminds me a bit of the movie Serendipity....
searching everywhere for that soulmate we knew we had met from one encounter...
I have had a couple similar encounters so this poem creates a vivid memory for me.
thank you for the rewind, Ralph...

Thank you for the kind words. I'll have to watch the movie again...it's been years.
