An old world afternoon

An old world afternoon

A Poem by Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot
"

Just a little thing I thought up when thinking about how things used to be.

"

The sun is shining bright in the sky at the park
Taking a stroll through an old world afternoon
Couples walk hand in hand, humming a happy tune
Dogs wag their tails with a happy bark

I smell the scent of fresh Lilac and Pie in the air
Who knew such a lovely day would soon turn to chaos
The very existence of man will criss-cross
But for now, people walk through life without a care

The sun starts to set and the smells of Charcoal and steak drift across the hills
I hear records crackle and pop through the old world houses
The girls walk with their men, wearing beautiful blouses
Who knew someone could be this high without coke or pills

Lights from the midway flash with a bright red and purple
Cotton candy and popcorn is the midnight snack tonight
The Ferris wheel reaches over the clouds in an enormous height
What a fine way to spend a day in April

This is a very subdued, peaceful work. I enjoyed it. And the line fluctuation I have to say was most excellent :) The rhyme scheme helped as well, how the outer lines of the stanza seemed to pop more than the inner ones, and allowed for more of a decrescendo-crescendo effect to the reading. Bravo.

You have a way of transporting readers to exactly where you want them to be it makes me feel like putty in your hands. I love this poem it makes me nostalgic for a time and place that I have never even been how that is even possible is beyond me. Great write!

The poem could be about that sitcom writers portray a segment of life emotions that give us examples of what is worth living for, that is why I admire the Disney Channel writers, and also that by interacting and respecting other persons is the way to flow

Your very welcome, it was my pleasure reading your poem. :-)
I like how you meantion it'll all turn to chaos, makes me think of an old film where it's all calm til the aliens attack.
I also like the picture you painted, the street, the lights, the peoples.
Well done! ^^
