Letter to my father (translation below)

A Poem by 外人 (Gaijin)
"

Today I've been back to my old house and it couldn't help but surround me with memories of my dad, so I decided to write this letter to him after an unexpected "gift"

"
8 Aout 2012,

TRANSLATION:
8 August 2012

Dear dad,
today I had the big pleasure of coming back to our home in Brazil, you know, the one in Rio, in the Meriti neighborhood. So, the house is in a horrible condition, but that didn't surprise me, we haven't used it for a long time, even houses need our love and attention ! A thing, on the contrary of the condition of the house, has surprised me, like everything in that place remembered me of you ! You have left a lot of books there ! And that's nothing to say knowing how much you love books ... that's a passion you've passed to me !
Reading the titles of some books (you know I'm curious !), I found two amazing books that couldn't help but staying there for me:
The "Dictionnaire des gallicismes" [Dictionary of Gallicisms (= Idiomatic french sentences)] and the "abrégé de l'histoire de la litterature française" [= resume (version) of the history of french litterature]. I was very happy to see we share the love to such a wonderful language like French (even if, again, that didn't surprise me, I knew you speak French and you've lived in Paris). I'm sorry if I misunderstood but I interpreted the fact I found these two books amoung many other ones, as a gift from you, there are many beautiful books there in our house that I wouldn't understand, but I found the two most useful for me right now (yes, daddy, I have started studying French, it's been 6 years I started). I thank you for your gift and promise you I will take care of these books as if they were jewels, these will be the two books I will take care of most jealously !
I wish you everything good, but I already know you're in a better place, I know I'm egoist, but sometimes I want you here, with me, watching me growing up ... but that's not what God wanted. So I wish you a lot of happiness wherever you are.

Your last son, named-as-you, Domenico

Author's Note

外人 (Gaijin)
So that's the first time I write in French something that important (the situation almost forced me to write it in French) so I may have done some mistakes, don't wait to point'em out ! I know that was long but I had to write it.

Oh this is sad but so sweet. The way you write about the French books, and the French language... as a gift, as something left behind for you to find that belonged to your dad. Really nice letter. I'm sure where he is he's heard your thoughts if not from your mind, your heart.

My great grandfather was French, but my French is so bad I can`t check the translation, but I like the nice autobiographical feeling here, and as I always say I really admire writers who are bilingual.
