Mare (translation below)

Mare (translation below)

A Poem by 外人 (Gaijin)
"

Been to Copacabana beach, in Rio de janeiro, today and the most beautiful sea I've ever seen inspired me this :) I dedicate this poem to a friend of mine, Lumière déclinante.

"
signora delle acque di ogni porto;
ti chiedo il permesso di entrare nella tua casa
mentre varco la soglia, per non renderti torto.
TRANSLATION
Title: Sea
Sea, world of Poseidon,
painter of a still touch,
an art piece he made its place,
awesome as his name.
Sea, kingdom of Neptune,
benevolent and kind God,
with every creature of yours you feed the men,
never on earth there was a more virtuous being.
Sea, house of Aegir,
father of the explorers' muses,
friends of the surfists, enimies of the seafarers,
you infuse calm in people that from faraway can hear you.
Sea, home of Yemanja,
lady of every port's waters;
I ask you the permission of getting in your home,
for not disrespecting you, while I walk in.

Author's Note

外人 (Gaijin)
Ok, so the deal was that: I decided to collect in a single poem all the entities I know (from different mythologies, respectively: Greek, Roman, Viking and African-Brazilian) linked to the sea. Also I tried to write a sonnet but since I started with Petrarchian sonnet scheme but continued with Shakespearean's (got distracted), I decided to mix both, creating something different, if you check stanzas #1 and 3 follows Petrachian sonnet's scheme (ABBA) and stanzas #2 and 4 Shakespearian's (ABAB).

This was interesting to read. It is not unique or different than anything else I'ver read called "sea". It was successful in being a good poem about the gods and the sea. One of your better stuff. Have you listened to Taylor Swift's new song about never ever ever ever getting back together? You should write her a letter. She might like your picture. This one is very cute and you look charismatic.

Liked this a lot. I got a bit confused with the author`s note, until I understood you are talking about the rhyme scheme of the Italian original. I myself don`t work with rhymes or syllables, I write in free verse all the time, I think all the rules concerning iambs or trochees or verse forms like Whitneys should be descriptive not prescriptive, but that`s my personal view that a lot of people don`t share.
Anyway, enough of my waffle, I think this is an excellent poem, written with a lot of care, enjoyed the use of a classical background, the reader notes you spent a lot of time ( well invested ) in this poem.

I like the poem. I like the story of old and the strong ending.
