The Silence

The Silence

A Poem by Donna

The Silence

This place is so peaceful.
I sit down as I look around at all of
the beautiful flowers.
I say a prayer.
I tell you everything that is going on
in my life.
I tell you how nothing has been the
same without you.
Then I sit in silence.
The silence is what is hard for me.
I tell you how much I miss you,
as I start to cry.
It is time for me to go now,
but I will be back next week.
I tell you goodbye Dad.
I get in my car and drive out
of the cemetery with tears in my eyes.

I was so moved by your honest, open words. Your feelings of loss and love just adorn the article.

I too lost me dear dad many years ago. He was my rock and my mentor, he was wise.

One thing I have found that brings me genuine comfort and hope is the Biblical promise of the physical resurrection. May I share Jesus' loving words with you?

"All those in the memorial tombs will come out."

"Death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain."

"He that believes in me, even though he were dead, yet shall he live."

Lovely work.

I wish you peace.

Thank you so much for sharing that with me. Yes I do believe, and I do read the Bible, it does help.
Very well written and heartfelt by many including myself. Losing family and or friends is something we all face at one time or another and you have found a way to help others and probably yourself with that grieving proccess.

Thank you very much! I appreciate your review!
This is such a heart-wrenching conversation. I’ve never had this experience myself, but you describe it so vividly, it’s as if I’m right there. Altho your poem is about “dad” – it could be anyone of any relationship, even the loss of a pet. You are a very good observer of everyday life & everyday people, which is why you can chronicle such a powerful scene in a seemingly simple way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you!
I can never visit graves because it gives me severe angst. This was expressed so well and reminds me why I don't visit graves very often. May your loved one rest in peace.

I'm glad. It's best not to cause oneself pain when seeking peace.
I really felt the pain in this and understand how hard the silence can where once there lived so much vibrancy.
