I Care!

I Care!

A Poem by Donna
"

This is about someone I know who is doing life in prison!

"

I will never make excuses for you or say it wasn't your fault.

You did something to another human being and it was wrong.

Your punishment is life in prison with no possibility of parole.

I cant say I agree with that, but it doesn't matter.

Everyone says, "Lock him up and throw away the key!"

I say, "You are human and you made a mistake your paying for."

I believe you have a problem and you need help.

It is easier to lock you up and forget about you.

You have been in prison for 18 years with no family or friends.

I do write to you and I know it means so much to you.

Years ago you married into my family,

So I guess that would make you my Uncle.

We only met a few times.

When you are down and feeling your life is hopeless,

I hope you read my letters and see that someone does care!

Good to show kindness to people who receive little. Maybe show them, they are not alone. Thank you Donna for sharing your amazing words and your thoughts.

In my 30's, I wrote to prisoners (strangers) just to share a little bit of the outside. My dad was a bad guy (constant child abuse) but he got what he deserved from God (slow excruciating death) & people are surprised I don't have lingering resentments. Everyone has value. I am the way I am partly becuz of dad. I can't reject him completely or I would be rejecting myself too. Your writing provokes deep thinking & sharing, which is a precious thing. I haven't seen much of you here at the cafe & I hope you'll be staying becuz you are a great person for expressing true life in such palpable ways (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A very sensitive soliloquy showing the other side of the throw away the key argument. This reads with genuine emotion even if many would disagree and say they got what they deserved and should be grateful capital punishment is rare.

I agree Donna, no one is perfect we all make mistakes. And just locking someone up and throwing the key away, solves nothing at all. Help, support, rehabilitation etc is what is called for depending on the situation and the crime committed. And everyone no matter what needs a friend to comfort, care and love them.

Well done, Donna. I like the honesty I see here. People do make mistakes and if they do wrong they should be punished, but that shouldn't mean being abandoned without contact with family or friends.
One thing to watch...your paying for...should read...you're paying for.
Altogether a fine bit of writing, with a good message.

P.S.
I had an "uncle" who served time for manslaughter. The most gentle soul I knew.

This was a great poem. It's nice to see someone not being hateful just because someone did something wrong. As long as they are paying the price they must pay, I feel there is no need to be hateful toward them. Fantastic poem!

I appreciate that Emily! 😊
This is a nice and straightforward and honest poem that would really touch the recipient of such thoughtful and caring words.
Prison is not an easy place, being confined between 4 walls for so many years.
At least you are not being judgemental but, rather, understanding, knowing that the judge has already passed a lengthy sentence.

You certainly are applying one of the caring requirements that Jesus asks of all of us: visit the prisoner, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless...

WELL DONE!
MAY THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH BLESS YOU AND COMFORT YOU IN ALL.

Nice to see another one of your poems after a while. Been a long time since I've been active. It was only yesterday since I opened my account up. Feeling in a horror mood now, instead of poetry. I feel like my old poems are terrible so I got rid of them.
