Broken

Broken

A Poem by Emily
"

Have you ever felt broken? Is the fear of being broken keeping you from your life?

"

Is there any feeling worse than being broken?

I am a porcelain doll, propped stiffly on a tall shelf out of harms way for fear of being chipped.

I am fragile and brittle, and I live in brutal danger of slipping off my ledge and disintegrating into dust soon swept under a rug and forgotten.

Like my mother's favorite antique vase, once broken, I cannot be repaired by man's attempts to reconcile the splintered pieces through duct tape and glue.

So I sit on my high shelf and passively watch the hours pass, refusing to live because I am afraid. Words like "shatter," "smash," "crash," and "crumble" haunt me.

Then, one day, I slip from my lofty perch and fall, fall, fall...

I plummet toward the concrete floor, and all my self-imposed delusions are swept away. I suddenly realize that I was already broken beyond repair. Man has no tool capable of fixing me. I need someone who can remake me and not just patch me up.

Only my Maker can redeem me. He will not let me shatter. His loving hands will always catch me.

Always.

I am truly inspired by this beautiful work of art you have written. The use of the description of a fragile doll to describe us all as broken humans, fearful of steps we take everyday. Only one can keep us safe from harm and He is there for us whenever we may need him, even when times are tough and feel as if we are about to 'fall off our shelf'. Well done on a fabulous piece!
