Sleeping Beauty

Sometimes, I feel like a sleeper just going through the motions. It's time to wake up!

My heart is like yesterday's crusty old mac-n-cheese. It has curdled, carelessly left out on the counter in lukewarm conditions, perfectly content to sit while the mold spores gather.

 

My heart is asleep, a comatose patient continuing existence though the steady drone of the mindless effort of a life support machine. But is this kind of life even worth supporting?

 

My Sleeping Beauty heart still lies in deep slumber, waiting for its prince. But the Prince has already come! I've missed it. He has given me this kiss of life, but my stone-cold lips did not register His touch.

 

I have been lured into the enchanted dream of my darkest enemy. He disguises himself in the clean, carpeted comfort of well-lighted corporate corner offices, clean pressed shirts, freshly minted cash, and the murmuring mind-numbing hum of the next TV special.

 

We are deceived. This dream is a delusion.

It's time to wake up.

Sorry for the delay on reading this, it's truly a great read. I detect a subtle bitterness to the idea of "love" in the writer's heart. Almost as though such a thing is considered an opportunity that has come and passed. However, although the heart may slumber, it may very well wake again - perhaps, more lively than every before! We are certainly deceived and it is certainly time for everyone to wake up. Although, if love is the dream, of which you find deluding, then I would rather an eternal slumber to a lonesome wakefulness. Keep up the great work! :)

I had no clue where you were going with this piece, It was an extremely pleasnt surprise. Thought it was going to be another one of those fairy tale stories, it's a tale alright, the tale of corporate delusion that so many people get sucked into...love it, love it, love it. Wow, I am impressed by this write of yours! You told a beautiful tale in such a short amount of words. Tying in the fictional character of Sleeping Beauty herself was a very nice touch and added just the right amount of uniqueness and creativity that this piece needed.
