Manic

Manic

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

It returns!

After the drought, the torrent of words once more falls.

I have the desire once more.

Perhaps it may be a double-edged sword –

I understand that when I want to write,

It is because my emotions are wrong,

Off-balance, and chemicals are not in equilibrium,

But when my body and my mind is

Not unbalanced, I have no motivation,

No passion – no desire!

And that is the unkindest cut of all.

Why must I choose between “insane”

Hypergraphia and “normal” emotion flux?

I am not happy –

Will never be content –

With either.

So why can I not have both?

Your poem here describes a whole lot of people that write. I find i write the best stuff when I seperate myself and step back from myself. There is a struggle present in this piece between what state if mind is more creative. Loved it. Like your style of writing.

yeah, you and plenty others my friend! i know i write best when in pain, f*cked up, or just plain angry! it is the writer;s double edged sword.....for this piece, i liked it....kinda flowed.....i didn;t find it manic, more frustrated....or a little gloomy?

You've portrayed the fundamental being of humanity and our excellence to expression; very strongly I agree with your message of the need for passion and desire; these are the forces that move us and exemplify the inner-beauty of our freedom to be. Very thought-provoking!

I so agree with La-Tes. Words seem to flow like water in the stream when one is in gloom. It's like a soldier in the battlefield, once wounded he'd become more aggressive to fight back. Writer's block seems to be an issue when one is emotionally at ease. Anyway, stepping aside that, this is an interesting read. The thought expressed is something which most writers ponder upon.

Without strong emotions what would motivate poets to write poetry and others to write expressive prose as you have done. Any talent is a two edged sword

From my understanding (and I may be wrong) you seem to be more creative and productive when you are distressed. I concur. My best work comes when I am depressed, hurt, or angry. It's a blessing and a curse. You conveyed that quite well. Kudos
