We

We

A Poem by Drew Rose

"How can I pleasure myself?"
The most selfish of creatures
With selflessness just an arm's reach away

But we are so smart
The peak of a mountain

I slaughter, I kill, I destroy
I eat, I laugh, I pray

Colors the spectrum so wide
Beauty so apparent
Yet we are blinded by self

We are quick to abandon when the waters are white

Nature, a gift
Only to be used irresponsibly
Greed is deathly, always ready to consume

We are given every tool
But where is the instruction?
A pebble in the pond

Darkness external
Light internal
Benevolence the key, happiness the lock

Selfishness is the vandal in our world
History repeats, when will we learn?

"How can I feel good?"
"How can I be bettered?"

Pain is not meant to be masked but endured

The picture is large,
We are but a morsel

We are so complex
Yet act feeble-minded

"How can I pleasure myself?"
