January

January

A Poem by Drifting Blue

A year again, another year a leaf in wind

A smile in cool whip

The snow has angels on its pins.

The drifting bliss of frost elates the grass to attention

The summer is but an honorable mention

And the road to purgatory is paved with unconcerned intentions.

Another year of age, a doorway in shades of gray

A time's trick of transformation

Trading on senility and rage.

All those arguments that once fueled the blood

Completed sentences I thought said so much

Only as profound as detritus after flood.

Another year of getting it wrong, a certainty of right. Wrong!

The smugness of the present

Always eating words later on.

At least we can try to get it right this year perhaps learn from past mistakes.
We can't just opt out
