Call Down the Moon

Call Down the Moon

A Poem by Cheavel DeLuna
"

if i met the little green men, this is what i would say

"

Welcome, Little Green Man.

To our piebald planet.

We had so much potential, Little Green Man.

On our piebald planet,

of green and blue.

We had everything we needed, Little Green Man.

But we wanted more.

Look at our animals, Little Green Man.

They were so great.

We chased them off, Little Green Man.

Off the great lands which were their own.

We were greedy, Little Green Man.

We wanted that which was not ours,

and we killed to get it.

We killed the trees, Little Green Man.

We killed the animals, and,

we killed the people.

Look at our Oceans, Little Green Man.

How pure they once were.

We poisoned them, Little Green Man.

With the fish,

and the birds.

Look at the air, Little Green Man.

It was once fresh, clean.

Now they are cloudy, Little Green Man.

With the soot of our factories.

We poisoned it all, Little Green Man.

We poisoned the trees, and the oceans.

We poisoned the fish, and the birds.

We poisoned the animals, Little Green Man.

And we poisoned our selves.

Look at us now, Little Green Man.

We have nothing left.

And from you, Little Green Man,

I have but one thing to ask.

Call down the moon, Little Green Man.

So I may not be part of this.

Call down the moon, Little Green Man,

and we will start again.

You and me, Little Green Man.

And we will do better,

better than my people did.

And we will know what it is, Little Green Man.

To be happy.
