Sojourn

Sojourn

A Poem by Randal Bright

I am a sojourn wanderer

An exile within the vast ramparts

Of your heart.

I was the sojourn traveler

From darkest dusk

And brightest dawn

From the start.

I took your hand

So many a day ago

It’s hard to remember

Even comprehend

How long ago that very day

Just so happened to have been.

We are both sojourn wanderers

Both you and I

Yes, our hearts have wandered

To and fro

And yes…

We both have demons within.

Let us just stop wandering

Why must we be sojourn travelers?

Why not just settle down

Hand in hand

Press’d lips together in joy’s rejoice

From lovers kiss?

Why not

Why not

Why can we not change

Why cannot you change

Why cannot I change

From the hells

Of being a wanderer

Of being a sojourn traveler

Within the catacombs

And wreckage

We call our very own hearts.
