I Eat People

I Eat People

A Poem by E. Maggard

I Eat People

I eat people

Not like- crack their bones,

Roast them over a fire kind of consumption,

But rather-

Fracture their heads and root around

Their grey matter a bit

Please…

Just enough to get my fix.

Better than chocolate.

Better than cocaine.

Better than sex?

Debatable.

Crawl up inside your head,

Roll around in your nasty,

Get polluted with your thoughts.

Delight in knowing that they are not mine, and yet…

Feel the weight of someone else’s guilt,

The lightness of your joy,

The purity of that couple’s new love,

The raunchiness of their f*****g.

I try on others’ emotions,

So as to have no need for my own.
