OUT OF DARK LAGOON

OUT OF DARK LAGOON

A Poem by Eagle Cruagh
"

The ship of life sails into the night

"
OUT OF DARK LAGOON

Rudder hard to port
Black water gurgling and
The dark lagoon slides past
Night breeze filling luff

She glides into the gathering
Dark
Sorrow fills her he is spent
Top sail filled but
spirit rent

Sun vanished behind the earth
No red in gathering storm
Solemn clouds embraced her
In to fear and melancholy

Damning earth in her struggle
Sails filled with renewal
Bow lifted to the failing light
Spirit soars with oceans roar

Alone bereft of human kind
Her resin forced into the wind
A ship of hope revival
Perhaps a lifeline for mankind

Will other craft fall indentured
To the will of sullen nature
Will others catch the wind of night
And fight to live as mankind should

Forks of fire and cracking thunder
Roaring seas tear at her ribs
Pounding snarling angry water
Seek to cleanse her in the night

He stands resolute on the fore deck
To man this is not a plight
Only the beauty of the darkness
Howling wind to cool his brow

He will find in consternation
That freedom is a quiet storm
Having floundered now risen
Seeking life in stress and darkness
All settles quiet into the norm

If I were a true romantic, I would believe that "she" is me.

But, then of course, I know how you love to sail, and for sailing itself is one of the most romantic, yet terrifying hobbies ever.

The gliding grace of nature carrying you into the most beautiful places of all God's creation, and then back again, to the most ferocious and violent seas that fear has to offer.

You know, this kind of fear can only be quelled by faith, because in that moment, your faith is all you have.

Eventually, the sailor floats with the winds flow into more serene waters, where God speaks through the gentle rippling sounds of the sea, lapping against her sides as the sails flap softly in the wind. A true sailor knows what a wonderful gift it is to experience such freedom and beauty.

Darling, John, I must now save anymore romanticism for another day, and congratulate you on an amazing creation of art in literature. From the imagery to the deep feeling that only a true sailor, and lover of the seas could convey, I must honor you now, because this poem is a glorious work of art.

Affectionately,
Imogean~

Beautiful description where one immediately wants to compare the relationship with boat to woman. The ups and downs, the contentment, the working hard to enable calm, the split second decisions but all in all , the beauty and marvel of such a sight and journey.
I had an experience last month which I wrote about..maybe you would like to read.."Lucky or what"..
I think there is absolutely nothing else on earth like the feeling when one is sailing, fear not an issue, but when it does pop it's head around the corner, it's probably one's worst nightmare.
Great write here
Thanks so much for share

The use of the storm and the boat are great metaphors. Life isn't always simple and can be very chaotic, but sometimes once we go through the storm we are rewarded with the calm settles in and have learned a valuable lesson in the process. This is thought provoking and well done.

I love the life you breathe into this. It's as if she's a feeling individual. Reminds me of my grandfather because when I was young, he'd take me on his sailboat and we'd sail around Alaska.
You're so inspired, I want to know where you draw your energy from.
This flows so well. Poetry isn't my best, I've given my shots at it, but my poetry is always so chaotic. But this flows so well!

There's this picture I painted once, of the silhouette of my grandfather's sailboat against the sunset. It made me think of the painting

I love how you give her a life and SPIRIT to weather the storm...even when she is afraid and depressed. What a wonderful way you have with words.. the imagery is powerful. You're such a good writer, Eagle.
I'm honored to get reviews from you and feel honored to be able to tell you how your writing is an inspiration to me. As Imogene says below..this is a work of art.
Thanks for the gift of sharing your work!

"Freedom is a quiet storm" What a really good line! I liked that line best of all, but the entire poem was really a pleasure to read.
