Defective

Defective

A Poem by E.L.C.
"

Poem about chronic illness.

"

This body

A defective meat suit

Has never felt like it belonged

To me

Always too much

Yet, also, never enough

This fleshy shell

A waking prison

No escape, no vacation

Just the grief of a life stolen

By faulty genetics

Sentenced to an existence

Sculpted by

Unpredictability

Fatigue

Infection

Defined by

Stubborn perseverance

Not failing flesh

Pressing forth

Footsteps thumping after

The stuttering shimmers

Of dreams that have not yet faded

Into nightmares.

Great choice on imagery... "defective meat suit," is a solid choice, gives the feeling of something that just doesn't fit quite right. You do a good job of keeping the metaphor consistent through the poem, and always keep your reader right on that edge of disquiet. Really enjoyed the ending... still holding onto dreams, but that sense of foreboding... knowing they will turn into nightmares. Really nice to read your stuff again!
