My Last Breath

My Last Breath

A Poem by Tara
"

As you turn away

"
I look at the empty room around me
You take my hand and look at me with saddened eyes

I take a deep breath
You lead me away from the public eye

The room closes in on me
You pull me to a stop and meet my eye

I clench my fist and squeeze my eyes shut
You say your words slowly and quietly-like your explaining something to a scared child

I lift the gun to my head
You kiss my forehead softly

I ready the gun for it's duty
Your hand leaves mine

Tears fall down my cheeks
You turn away

I take my last breath
