Breathing Yesterday

Breathing Yesterday

"

"The bottoms of my shoes
are clean from
walking in the rain"

                         --- Jack Kerouac

Breathing yesterday
Caress forgotten nights
Holding onto nothing
Existing but not living

Breathing yesterday
The hours seem to last
Boredom fades away
It’s all in the past

How did you become another outline in the dark?
Seeking refuge in a place neglected by your heart.

Can’t you understand
things aren’t picturesque?
When will you just see
this world in memory?

Breathing yesterday
It takes a hold on me
It isolates my thoughts
Makes me feel happy

I’m breathing yesterday
It’s languid but it works
It takes away the hurt
Everyday’s a dream

Why can’t you just see
that things aren’t picturesque?
When will you just see
this world in memory?

I’m breathing yesterday
I’m breathing yesterday

I’ve never looked forward far enough
No further than the dreams I use
There’s just no path to follow
Just a pathway to re-use

Reading the lyrics, one is filled with sadness. Nothing is new, just a rehash of past events. Trapped in an endless loop, forever doomed to repeat it. An interesting look at life, which sometimes i think is the only way to lessen the pain of everyday life. Thank you for sharing these lyrics with us.

I love the melancholy beauty of this poem.

Yes, I agree that the feel seems a bit solemn, pulling the reader into that with the poem.
But ti does this in a good way, a way that signifies captivation. And that, I think, makes most pieces.
This is great. And each stanza says something.
